The Prince’s Trust

The Prince's Trust is a charity in the United Kingdom founded in 1976 by the Prince of Wales to help vulnerable young people get their lives on track.

Those supported by the Trust are often from disadvantaged backgrounds. The programmes offered by the Trust help build young people’s self-confidence and get into jobs, education and training.

The Julia and Hans Rausing Trust is the Lead Patron for the Prince’s Trust in the South West region. A grant of £5 million was agreed in October 2016, in support of the Prince’s Trusts work with young people in Bristol and the South West.

In September 2019, The Julia and Hans Rausing Trust donated £10 million to the Prince’s Trust to support their operations in London. The grant will underpin The Prince’s Trust’s work in London, aiming to grow the number of young people supported in the capital to over 10,000 annually by 2023. In particular, it will help enhance and increase work with young people, aged 11-30, in the capital at risk of being impacted by, or getting involved in, serious violence. Part of this work is the “Amplified” initiative, designed to help amplify the voices of positive, relatable role models, and delivered in partnership with leading media companies.

The grant has also been made to assist in creation of a new London Centre, a vibrant space in South London for young people to gain confidence and skills to live, learn and earn. The Centre will play a key part in delivering the wider strategic aims of the Prince’s Trust in London.

“So many young people have the aptitude and willingness to succeed in life, but circumstances mean they need additional support to truly thrive. In particular, the violence that is taking place among younger people across the capital, prevents many of them being able to have positive and bright futures.”
